Friskis&Svettis Emergency Facts 2009

4.8 per cent of Sweden?s inhabitants are now a part of Friskis&Svettis. Since 2000 the number of members has increased by 106% to 477 665 members. With the Friskis&Svettis Emergency Facts you now have the possibility to be 100% certain when you write about Sweden?s largest national movement.


• Friskis&Svettis is comprised of 156 non-profit sports associations. The corresponding number in 2000 was 130. The latest addition to the associations is Friskis&Svettis Mora.
 
• 477 665 members 2008. An increase of 7.9% since 2007 and an increase of 106% since 2000.

• There are currently 444 420 training members in Sweden, 28 754 in Norway and 4 491 in Aberdeen, Brussels, Helsinki, Copenhagen, London, Luxembourg, Paris and Vanda.
 
• 4.8 per cent of Sweden?s inhabitants are members of Friskis&Svettis. 16 Friskis&Svettis associations have over 10% of the locality?s population as members. A further 37 Friskis&Svettis associations have over 5% the locality?s population as members. The complete list can be found here.
 
• 15 152 persons partake in a Friskis&Svettis association. 6 710 are leaders/instructors and 6 107 are hosts/receptionists. 546 persons, i.e., 3.6% of the total are employed by an association. Most of the employees also have a voluntary commitment as, for example a leader or instructor.
 
• 111 associations in Sweden, 37 associations in Norway and associations in Helsinki, Vanda, Copenhagen, Brussels, Paris, Luxembourg, London and Aberdeen.
 
• 817 new leaders and instructors educated and qualified/licenced during 2008. Friskis&Svettis educates its own leaders and instructors
 
• 1978, Friskis&Svettis was founded in Stockholm by Johan Holmsäter. After only six months the association had 1 450 members. Today, Friskis&Svettis Stockholm is Sweden?s largest sports association with 60 101 members. 1985, Johan Holmsäter left his commission.

• 2009 Friskis&Svettis will achieve the milestone of half a million members.
